Many disoriented elders could quickly be helped if the individual was wearing a band labeled ECI for emergency contact information. As soon as the person was determined to be disoriented, someone could intervene.

My family took a beach vacation with our three boys many years ago and had an experience that I promise you wouldn't want to be a part of! We arrived at the beach to set up for the day and were there with families from church as well. Our six year old son had drifted down the coast, along with a friend from church, on his raft. My husband asked our four year old son, Matthew, to tell them to come back and get in the water in front of where we had set up for the day. In the meantime, a catamaran had pulled up in front of our beach towel. Matthew went around the catamaran looking for us and kept on walking (lost) down the beach. Friends, police, helicopters, beach patrols, and strangers spent 2 ½ hours looking for Matthew. He walked straight down the beach eight miles! If he had had a bellband on, this terrible day would have ended in a few minutes instead of a few awful hours.
